Design Your Mailpiece
If you want to generate leads or business with an offer, use mailpiece copy and design to present your offer clearly and prominently.
Format Your Mailpiece for Printing
Make sure your design includes the address label and postage indicia in the right locations for an EDDM mailing. Many printers can help you format, design, print, and prepare your mailing using the correct USPS® formats and postage marks.

The Every Door Direct Mail-Retail price per piece for Flats weighing no more than 3.3 oz is $0.178.
EDDM Retail Customers
You do not have to have a mailing permit to use EDDM Retail. Retail customers may pay for mailings online with a credit/debit card or at the Post Office™ with cash, credit/debit card, check, or meter strip.
EDDM BMEU® (Business Mail Entry Unit) Customers
BMEU customers must pay for mailings with a bulk-mailing permit. Drop off your EDDM mailings at the BMEU where your permit is held.
Postage Permits. A permit imprint indicia is a postage payment mark that authorized mailers may use instead of a postage or meter stamp.
EDDM Retail customers may use the Every Door Direct Mail-Retail indicia.
EDDM BMEU customers may use an existing permit indicia.
Every Door Direct Mail-Retail Indicia Guidelines
Every EDDM mailpiece must have an EDDM indicia with “ECRWSS” in the address area, within the permit indicia, or below the permit, like the examples to the right.
The EDDM Retail Indicia does not have a specific size requirement but must be larger than .5″ x .5″.
The type font must be in all caps and at least a 4 point size.
Place the indicia in the upper right hand corner of the mailpiece.
It should fit in the area 1.625″ from the right edge and 1.375″ from top edge.
Leave 1/8″ of space around the top and right edge.
BMEU Address Label Guidelines
“EDDM” must be included after “ECRWSS” on the address label if the mailpiece is 10.5″ to 11.5″ long.
Including City, State, and 5-Digit ZIP Code is recommended but not required.
Address Lists
You do not need a mailing list for an EDDM mailing. Your mail is delivered to every address on your chosen postal routes.
Simplified Addressing
The EDDM service uses simplified addressing instead of a full address. For example, most mailpieces will simply be addressed to “Postal Customer.”
